The interior design was the first thing which struck me, which was a beautiful blend of modern and classical styles. However, it felt as if the chic look of the place was compensating for the inferior size and ungainly layout of the premises.Granted that this is a boutique hotel, but for the same price, I could get better value for money in terms of fundamental needs such as facilities, room size, layout and location. On that last point, I have stayed in other places around Singapore and felt that there was little excuse for a hotel of that price to be inconveniently located in terms of public transport. Furthermore, when you stay in a city like Singapore where public transport everywhere else is excellent, expectations are inevitably high and they were not met for The Scarlet. On the final and positive note, I recognize the efforts of the staff to add a personal touch in terms of communication with guests and a generally friendly atmosphere; this is usually not found at mass-market accommodations
