Animation is a collection of arts which combines various technologies such as biology, graphics and optics. Two-dimensional animation as one of the basic format has become a mature and complete theoretical and knowledge system after growing for nearly a century. With the never-ending upgrades of software and hardware and the development of science and technology, three-dimensional animation has stepped onto the historical stage of animation and is growing ever faster. However, with the elevated appreciation level from viewers, when a single form of animation cannot bring fresh visual and hearing excitement to the audience, using a combination of various types of technologies becomes inevitable.
This paper discusses how to integrate the advantages and superiorities of 2-D and 3-D animation to think outside the box of focusing only on drawing techniques or emphasizing on something. It explores the ways to present better visual effect and enhance animation-making productivity, as well as the new orientations of studies on computer-aided animation.
